Deville Cohen (b. 1977 Tel Aviv), is a visual artist and a director living and working in Brooklyn, New York. He studied sculpture at the KHB Berlin (Germany) from 2002-2007 and received his MFA in film/video from Bard College, NY in 2010. His work was shown in the Center for Contemporary Art, Tel-Aviv, Israel, 2014; Disjecta, Portland OR, 2014; the Marjorie Barrick Museum, Las Vegas, 2013; Stage Presence, SFMoMA, 2012, San Francisco; Greater New York, 2010, MoMA PS1, New York; Stagecraft, University of South Florida Institute for Research in Art, 2011; BOMBbash, Marlborough Chelsea, 2011; Foxy Production, NYC, 2011; and Louis B James gallery ,2011; among others. In The summer of 2016 his first stage production *underline was premiered at the Munich Biennale and The Deutsche oper Berlin. He was an artist in residence at Recess Art (SoHo), 2010, EMPAC (Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center) Troy, 2012, The Wooster Group Performance Garage 2014, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) workspace 2014-15, and Fountainhead, Miami, FL, 2015.
* underline is a collaboration between Deville Cohen (Storyline, Videos, Set Design and Director) and the composer Hugo Morales (Music and Instrument Design). underline was commissioned by the Munich Biennale For New Music Theater and a co-production of the Deutsche Opern Berlin, underline premiered in Berlin and Munich in June 2016.
